If you look closely you will see the photo from 8/4/11 looks like there is built up sole.  The owner/trimmer applied a rim notch to the hoof on the left side in the quarter area.  Within 2 days the hoof began to shed chunks of congested sole.  The horse was immediately more comfortable then in the previous days.  The owner does not count this as a coincidence but definite confirmation the rim notch helped.
